WindWaker Typography by Peruserofpieces WindWaker Typography by Peruserofpieces
Whew...boy, did this take a while to do! I've always thought typography was such an interesting concept, so I decided to make one myself! I think it looks pretty darn good for my first attempt. I clocked myself at around 21 hours and 30 minutes over the course of 4 days.

I'll be entering this into the county fair next week, so wish me luck there! If all goes well, I'll also have a pencil drawing to add to the mix later, too! I hope you all like ponies...

The image is a reproduction of this one, [link] , which I do not own, obviously.

EDIT (July 29): Well, looks like we took 2nd place again at the fair this year. I gotta admit, I'm a little bummed, as I honestly thought it would do better than that, but considering how well this piece has been received here on DA, and all the praise it's gotten, that in itself makes me feel like I've really accomplished something. So thank you guys, both for the outpouring of support and for making me feel awesome for doing what I do! :-)

EDIT (August 14): Much higher quality version put up. I finally figured out that you can take a Publisher document and convert it into a JPG quite easily. The old version was simply a scan of the printout. The difference in color quality is just mind-boggling.

EDIT (March 20, 2012): Wow, thanks so much for all the wonderful comments and favs! You guys rock!

Really good, I like how you used a different shade of colour for some of the parts of the same, like the red of the boat and the green of the pole. Very good.

This is incredible! To manipulate each word to fit so precisely and to still show so much detail takes great skill and patience!

Oh, I never used a tutorial or anything like that. I just found an image that I really liked (one that I thought could easily be converted into typography), copied it into a blank Publisher document, then started covering every square inch of it in WordArt. Just make sure to use the right colors, and don't be afraid to use more than one type of font (something I neglected to do here). It's not hard, really. Just time consuming. ;-)

Heh, thanks, I'm flattered! Come to think of it, this actually would make a good poster. Dang, if it weren't for the whole copyright issue, I might be tempted to offer some prints. ;-)

but then again people could just steal ideas and get away with it ^^;

Yeah, I mean I understand why copyrights are there and all, so it doesn't really bother me. Besides, if I did start making prints of it, then I guarantee you, I would be the ONLY person in the ENTIRE world who would get caught and get into some sort of major legal trouble. Maybe you've heard of Murphy's Law? ;-)

Murphy's Law -- Anything that CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong.

And Murphy's Law tends to apply pretty heavily in my family tree, so the chances of me breaking copyright and offering prints is nil, sadly. :-(
